Week One No Chocolate – A Success

July 7th, 2010 No comments

Hey everyone I’ve been kinda quiet, but it’s all good.

Happy to report that I’ve gone 7 days now without chocolate!  Woohoo! A major success for me and with every day that goes by my resolve to continue without it gets stronger (although my niece did make homemade ice cream with Oreo’s in it tonight – I left as they were serving it and I wasn’t even tempted).

Thumbs Up for/from ME!

My eating is better too, although I find that I really have to remind myself to eat (especially lunch) because I’m so used to not eating.

My pants are perhaps a skoosh looser than a week ago.

I am feeling better physically, mentally and emotionally too.

I finally shaved my legs (have been lazy and let the blonde hair grow) and have started putting lotion on my body.  Yes I seriously need to reconnect with my body and love it!

I’ve tackled the pile of dirty dishes that have been sitting in my sink and on my cupboard for weeks, (yea they were pretty awful) was going to take a before and after picture to show you but it was just way too disgusting (trust me). I scrubbed down my kitchen sink and counter and feel lighter already with it being clean.

Blessings to all of us,

Sabrina

I’m a chocoholic a real chocolate addict

Addicted to Chocolate

Empty M&M WrappersMy name is Sabrina and I’m a chocolate addict. A very serious chocolate addict, in fact I guess the correct term would be a chocoholic.  My current chocolate obsession (drug of choice) is plain M&M’s. (I used to love the BIG Hershey Chocolate Bar with Almonds but had to give them up after moving to Vegas because they melt to fast.) I’ve also gone through phases with Peanut M&M’s but lately they cause so much bloating and heartburn I gave them up.

I don’t drink alcohol but I have a serious chocolate addiction. I can go through a Medium or Large bag within a day or two easy. I can tell you who has the cheapest and best prices for M&Ms. I buy them from different places to avoid the embarrissment of the frequency and amount that I buy. I find myself getting anxious on Friday, because I need to make sure I’ve got enough of a supply to get me through the weekend. Lately I’ve found myself buying M&M’s in the 42oz size bag, clearly signalling that I’m going through more, faster while doing nothing to improve the state of my health.

Day 1 – First Step – Remove all Chocolate from the house.

I woke up this morning feeling hung over (I don’t drink) but I had eaten a half gallon of rocky road ice cream last night and as many M&M’s as I could before I went to sleep.  If you struggle with addiction of any type, you know how it is, one last binge before a fresh new start.

Thankfully today was trash day so I cleaned out the chocolate syrup bottles, empty ice cream cartons and M&M wrappers from my fridge put them in the trash and took them out to the curb just as the trash truck pulled up – what timing!Empty chocolate containers

Lately M&M’s have been my drug (chocolate fix) of choice.

I know I will be surrounded and tempted by chocolate every day but just getting all things chocolate out of my house makes it easier for me and reaffirms my committment to not eat it.

I still had some M&M’s left but I put them in a container and took them to work where I but them in the lunch room for anyone who wanted them to help themselves.

I didn’t get much sleep last night and without my normal gargantuan dose of sugar I was really dragging today, and a little bit off kilter too.

Today Starts My Journey of Creating Health and Happiness

June 30th, 2010 No comments

It’s July 1st 2010, and I’m starting this blog to document my journey of creating health and happiness in my life.

My intentions for this blog are to keep myself accountable, have a record of my progress, tell it like it is in the moment, and perhaps even inspire someone (maybe you) to take action to create health and happiness in your life.

Health

Here are the facts:

  • I’m a 54 year old woman who is overweight, actually let’s call it what it really is, obese weighing 208 pounds
  • 208 poundsfor my 5’4″ body frame (the reading on the scale is from today the first time in years I’ve dared to step on one).
  • I do no type of regular exercise.
  • I eat very poorly.
  • I pop several Acid Reducer tablets every day to manage my heartburn and, regularly take Naproxen to deal with the stiff and sore joints (was diagnosed with Lupus in 1978 and despite my lack of self care have had very few flare ups or symptoms over the years).
  • I have a prescription for the generic to Clexa (an anti-depression medication) but often forget to take it.
  • I was taking Ambien on a regular basis to sleep at night (after napping during the weekday afternoons or sleeping through the days on the weekend) but when my prescription ran out last week I decided it was time to make some changes in my life.
