The Answer Man

The Answer ManI’m trying to pay attention to what shows up in my life and the meaning of it so last night I watched the movie The Answer Man starring Jeff Daniels and Lauren Graham.

The reason I probably put this movie on hold from the library was because Lauren Graham was in it.  I loved her in Gilmore Girls so it was good to see her in something.  If you are a Gilmore Girl fan then you might want to know that the dialog moves at a good pace but not as fast as it did on Gilmore Girls:)Gilmore Girls

The story line is about a reclusive author Arlen Faber (Jeff Daniels) who wrote a book “Me and God” which became a phenomenon and defined spirituality for a generation twenty years ago. On the eve of the 20th anniversary of the publication of the book (and all the spinoffs) his life collides with the lives of Elizabeth (Lauren Graham) and Kris (Lou Taylor Pucci).

Since I love used bookstores I was happily surprised to see a real used bookstore as one of the central locations for this movie.

Plot

“Arlen Faber may have written the book on spirituality but he didn’t read it” says one of the characters in the film.  He is a normal human being like everyone else, with his own  issues to deal with.  Basically he is an angry, self-centered, lonely and unhappy person.

My take aways:

  • No one person has all the answers (so why do we keep trying to give someone all that perceived power?)
  • Having people who care about you in your life matters more than we know
  • Each person who comes into our lives is there for a reason and has something to teach us if we are open
  • We can overcome our addictions and challenges although it may be tough and rocky sometimes

Where to get this movie/DVD

  • Your public library
  • Amazon
  • Netflix

Blessings to all of us,

Sabrina

P.S. Would love to hear what you thought of the movie and the take aways you had.
